Hi to all!
I'm Roxanne Zusmer and I welcome you to my blog. I'm an author who has a number
of books on amazon.com. I'm also an artist working mostly in watercolor,
acrylic, and mixed media. You can find my books, art, and poetry on my website,
www.roxannezusmer.com. You can also get to my blog from my website. My writings
and art mushroomed after a wonderful career as a school counselor, working with
children, adolescents, and parents. I also led numerous workshops over my
career. But, I'm retired now from the field of education and enjoying South
Florida in the winter and spring, and the mountains of
I'm very in
tune with the environment and the sustainability of our planet. I celebrated
and embraced the Paris Agreement that was brought to fruition during Obama's
administration with 196 nations signing the Agreement. The epilogue of my book,
"Mr. Germain Goes To Antarctica" deals with global warming and the
strategic planning that went into the formation of the Paris Agreement. It ends
at that point. So much has happened with Trump's announcement to pull out of
the Agreement and what's been occurring since that announcement that I plan to
revise the epilogue to include the years 2016 - 2020. I'm working on it, but
will have it ready to be published after Biden hopefully becomes President and
dismantles the act of pulling out of the Agreement. I firmly believe what the
Native Americans have long stated that the earth belongs to no one ... it is
our place to use it while we are here and leave in healthy and sustainable for
the future generations.
Below are
issues I wrote about elsewhere, but cut and pasted to include it in my blog
because I strongly believe these issues are most relevant and worthy of
repeating. Feel free to comment on any of them. Again, you can get to my blog
through my website www.roxannezusmer.com.
As of this
time in 2020, there are several political issues that I deem important to the
welfare of our country and its people:
Abolish the
electoral college. I have been an advocate of this since college. It is just
wrong to win the popular vote and lose to the electoral college.
Climate
change and global warming are real issues that are effecting the planet and
should be taken seriously. There are necessary regulations that need to be
implemented to lead us toward sustainability throughout the world.
There needs
to be gun control, including licensing, background checks, and abolishing
assault weapons. This is a common sense action that does not infringe on the
second amendment.
There
should be economic equality, including equal pay for equal work, and a minimum
wage that enables people to live outside of poverty.
Immigration
policies should allow a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
Education
should be free from Pre-K through junior college/technical school.
There
should be a health care plan for all. The Affordable Care Act (generally called
Obamacare) should be available to all people. There is a need to update it and
revise it where needed. People should have a choice whether to have this health
care plan or have private insurance, but all people should have some kind of
health insurance.
Criminal
justice needs to be changed to make sure people of color are not targeted by
police. Mental health providers should be a part of the police department.
Racism is an issue that needs to be addressed with further sensitivity
training, as well as rules and regulations concerning the use of tactics that
can cause death when subduing victims.
The rights
of LGBTQ needs to be addressed further, giving them the rights and equality
that all people deserve.
There
should be social equality in our country. Rather than “All men are created
equal,” perhaps it should be amended to “All people are created equal.” This
includes equal pay for women for equal work, and the right for women to have a
say over their own health and bodies.
